Were you wondering where I had disappeared to my pet? ~laugh  I took a spur of the moment mini vacation with some friends up to the lake and it was JUST what I needed.  Sometimes it is necessary to step away from technology and just remember what life is like without constant contact.  Although I did cheat a little and checked  email and such.

In any case.. I am back to twist your mind for my pleasure.  Are you ready?

A Tale of Love Never Ending: Carl van Cassel

Van Cassel was a sixty-year old German veteran of the Great War who had moved the US in the early thirties, and found work as an x-ray technician in Key West.  He was taken with a young nurse, Maria Elena Oyoz, at the hospital, who died of a sudden illness.  Van Cassel began hearing Maria sing to him a song of young lovers where the woman died and the man dug her from the grave.  Van Cassel then took Maria’s body, preserved her remains, and kept her dressed in white satin on his bed.

Around 1940, police raided van Cassel’s home and found the corpse, still well-maintained with her “face, breasts, arms, legs, trunk and vaginal tube” reconstructed.  Pictures of the body, which van Cassel would go on to sell postcards of, show a waxen doll-like figure.  There was evidence that the old man had been having sex with the corpse.  Van Cassel was not prosecuted due to the statute of limitations.

From here it gets murky.  Van Cassel either died of a heart attack decades later, or merely a year of so later, he disappeared after a bomb was set off at Maria’s gravesite.

Now tell me… is that any different from those of you who have your own real doll? ~laugh  Yes I suppose it could be argued that a real doll was never a corpse, but I believe when Van Cassel was done – his true love was more doll than corpse don’t you? Just something to think about…
