Samhain (in English pronounced /ˈsaʊn/, /ˈsaʊɪn/ or /ˈsawɪn/, from Irish samhain /ˈsˠaunʲ/, Scottish samhuinn /ˈsavɯɲ/, Old Irish samain /ˈsaṽɨnʲ/) is a festival on the end of the harvest season in Gaelic and Brythonic cultures, with aspects of a Festival of the Dead. It is the beginning of the Celtic year
The term derives from the name of a month in the ancient Celtic calendar, in particular the first three nights of this month, with the festival marking the end of the summer season and the end of the harvest. The Gaelic festival became associated with the Catholic All Souls’ Day, and appears to have influenced the secular customs now connected with Halloween. Samhain is also the name of a festival in various currents of Neopaganism inspired by Gaelic tradition. From Wikipedia
I do hope everyone enjoyed their holiday as much as I enjoyed mine *smile* Now.. onto other things. Is anyone as appalled as I am about Anne Rice finding “god”??? How can you completely turn your back on all that is unholy and correct in the world and have a come to Jesus book party. I am.. *shudder* disgusted. Since I can no longer bear discussing it, you of course can find more information here: Anne Rice comes to Jesus *sighs softly*
Perhaps there is hope though. Several people have recommended that I indulge myself and read the Twilight series and insist even if they were originally intended for young adults ( much like Harry Potter) that they are meaty enough for adult teeth to sink into. So perhaps I will pick one up and see where it leads to.
Seeking something decadently dangerous? I will be around most of the evening to feed you..
